Why read books-in-brief?
With the limited time I have available for reading, and a backlog of at least one year’s worth of material already on my desk, IIIT’s Books-in-Brief series has been a very welcome discovery. These well edited summaries distil into an hour or so of reading the essential ideas of several leading contemporary thinkers on Islam. Each of the chosen topics is vital to the present condition of Muslim society, and the various authors showcase ideas that will be essential in moving forward from that condition. For those who are in haste to know how the world of Islam should respond to the challenges of modernity, it probably doesn’t come better packaged than this.
