The Certificate in Quantitative Educational Research Methodology is designed for researchers, graduate students, teachers, and professionals interested in developing skills needed for quantitative analysis in educational research. The certificate program is structured to accommodate students from a variety of backgrounds in the social and behavioral sciences with the aim of developing advanced quantitative skills that go beyond the requirements of a typical non-quantitative graduate degree program. Successful completion of the coursework will prepare students to answer complex research problems using an array of sophisticated statistical techniques.
In order to be eligible for the certificate a student needs to complete 12 credit hours in the following courses (please click each of the following course links for more information):
Introductory statistics course that covers basic descriptive statistics including graphs and numerical summary methods, basic probability theory, sampling theory, hypothesis testing, basic t tests, one-way analysis of variance, and simple linear regression. Basic data manipulation is also covered.
Emphasizes educational research applications using advanced GLM-based methods such as multiple regression, factorial analysis of variance (ANOVA), and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). Additional topics include repeated measures ANOVA and logistic regression.
Covers advanced multivariate techniques such as multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA), multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA), confirmatory and exploratory factor analysis, principal components analysis, cluster analysis, and structural equation modeling (SEM).
This course focuses on educational survey research techniques related to scale construction and survey design. Issues specific to large scale education surveys such as complex designs, plausible values, and nested structures are covered. Additional topics include HLM, data cleanup, and missing value analysis.
The certificate program is designed to be completed in one year. EDU 510 and EDU 520 are part of a 6-credit sequence with EDU 510 offered in the first half of Fall and EDU 520 offered in the second half. Both of these courses are prerequisites to EDU 620 and EDU 680 which are offered in Spring.

- A 500-word personal statement describing applicant’s interest and prior experience in education and research, and the objective for pursuing this certificate.

- Contact information of two references. These should be individuals who are familiar with the applicant’s current work or educational achievements.
