IIIT hosted Prof. Jason Baehr, of Loyola Marymount University, on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022, for its latest Human Development webinar. The talk was titled, “Keeping an Open Mind: The Nature and Value of Open-mindedness.” It was moderated by Alex Koenig, IIIT’s non-residential fellow in Human Development and Education.

Prof. Baehr covered important questions such as, What is open-mindedness? How is open-mindedness different from other “intellectual virtues” like curiosity and intellectual humility, and Is open-mindedness consistent with firm conviction?

After the presentation, the audience asked Prof. Baehr questions about the nature of open-mindedness, how to help someone become open-minded, and what open-mindedness may look like within faith convictions.
