Turkey and Bosnia & Herzegovina Summer Students Discuss Renewal in Islamic Thought

The students learned about the efforts done by IIIT in bringing about such a renewal. Specifically, they deliberated on the need to develop a new methodology for dealing with the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and the Islamic heritage.
IIIT’s summer school in Bosnia and Herzegovina was attended by 28 students from all over Europe. Students hailed from various backgrounds and disciplines in humanities, social sciences, engineering, and medicine. They were taught and discussed intellectual renewal and social reform, contemporary Islamic thought, Islamic revival, and Salafism. By being introduced to various categories in the study of contemporary Islamic thought, the students were engaged in a wide-ranging discussion on issues relevant to modern Muslim experience in Europe.
The summer school in Bosnia ended on Friday, August 17. The students reflected on their experience and how it would enable them to become better students and contribute to the discourses on Islam and Muslims in various European countries.
