Is forgiveness a decision we make or an emotional state of mind?
On July 9, 2021, the Human Development Program webinar Series of Advancing Education in Muslim Societies (AEMS) hosted professor Everett Worthington to address the above question and others. He started his presentation with a review of forgiveness theories and research as well as the links between forgiveness, spirituality, empathy, and other traits. Professor Worthington presented the religious grounding of forgiveness and its importance in the Abrahamic faith of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. He provided field evidence for the power of educating learners of all ages to forgive. He also presented studies that examined the impact of a forgiveness intervention.
