Experts Meeting on Mapping the Terrain Study
Rigor is at the core of empirical research in education as well as human development and is considered a best practice in transformation work. Advancing Education in Muslim Societies (AEMS) has kept that as an integral component of its agenda to improve research quality and contribute to impactful outreach. A recent event of the Human Development (HD) program, part of AEMS of IIIT, exemplified that when invited scholars in various social science disciplines reviewed its Mapping the Terrain study, provided feedback, and advised on next steps. The engagement with experts culminated in a virtual two-hour meeting that was held on December 3rd, 2021, and was chaired by Dr. Ilham Nasser, Director of the study and the HD program. The discussion included highlighting the strength of the study’s theoretical framework and methodology as well as gaps and limitations. The core of the meeting focused on suggestions to reach out to stake holders and ideas to continue the empirical study. The event was planned with the assistance of Alexander Koenig, a Non-Resident Fellow in Human Development and Education Policy in the HD program, and Saulat Pervez, Assistant Researcher at IIIT.
