CIES Conference 2019
On Thursday, Apr. 18, Cynthia Miller-Idriss, Professor of Education and Sociology at American University and Senior Consultant with IIIT, and Saulat Pervez, Research Associate at IIIT, presented the AEMS’ Mapping the Terrain study at the 2019 annual meeting of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) in San Francisco. They explained the expanded focus from higher education to K-12 education under the current initiative as well as the emphasis on empirical research in the core areas of policy, curriculum, pedagogy, leadership and assessment. They situated the AEMS agenda in the third space which is centered on holistic and transformative learning along with the usual utilitarian goals of education. In addition to sharing AEMS’ conceptual framework, grounded in the 3Hs theory and the human development approach, they also summarized preliminary findings of the research, including sample size by country and survey type as well as the overall robustness of the study and its reliability due to sample size and scale quality.
