Albanian: Themelet Socio-Intelektuale të Përqasjes së Malek Bennabiut ndaj Qytetërimit (Books-in-Brief: The Socio-Intellectual Foundations of Malek Bennabi’s Approach to Civilization) Studiuesi dhe intelektuali i njohur algjerian Malek Bennabi (1905-1973) kishte interes në nxjerrjen në dritë të shkaqeve të rënies muslimane dhe arsyet e suksesit dhe arritjeve të qytetërimit perëndimor. Problemi kryesor që ai teorizoi nuk qëndron në Kuran apo në besimin islam por në vetë muslimanët. Ky studim hulumton përqasjen e Bennabiut ndaj qytetërimit duke përdorur metodologjinë e metateorizimit për të shqyrtuar tezën e tij, dhe për të hedhur dritë më shumë mbi njërën prej elementëve, me gjasë, më intrigues të teorisë së tij, që qytetërimi udhëhiqet nga faktorë të brendshëm-të jashtëm dhe socialë-intelektualë, dhe se mund të prodhohet një ekuacion për vetë qytetërimin. Ky ekuacion i Njeriut + Tokës + Kohës = Qytetërim, për të cilin feja formon katalizatorin e pazëvendësueshëm, është analizuar dhe është vlerësuar rëndësia e tij në termat e një përmbysjeje të rënies muslimane. Ajo që është qartësisht e dukshme është se për Bennabiun, Njeriu është forca qendrore në cilindo proces qytetërues dhe pa të dy elementët e tjerë nuk kanë ndonjë vlerë. Sa u përket rezultateve, bindja e pagabueshme dhe e palëkundur e Bennabiut se nëse muslimanët nuk ndryshojnë gjendjen e tyre shpirtërore nuk mund të ndikojnë mbi asnjë ndryshim domethënës dhe me ndikim të gjerë në shoqëri gjen jehonë në vargun kuranor: “Vërtet, Allahu nuk do ta ndryshojë kurrë gjendjen e një populli derisa ata të ndryshojnë brendësinë e tyre” (13:11). Renowned Algerian intellectual and scholar Malek Bennabi (1905–1973), was concerned with unravelling the causes of Muslim decline and the reasons for Western civilization’s success and achievements. The key problem he theorized lay not in the Qur’an or the Islamic faith but in Muslims themselves. This study investigates Bennabi’s approach to civiliza-tion using metatheorizing methodology to examine his thesis and shed further light on perhaps one of the more intriguing elements of his theory, that civilization is governed by internal-external and social-intellectual factors and that an equation can be generated for civilization itself. This equation of Man+Soil+Time = Civilization and of which religion forms the all-important catalyst, is analysed and its significance in terms of the reversal of Muslim decline evaluated. What is clearly apparent is that for Bennabi, Man is the central force in any civi-lizing process and without him the other two elements are of no value. With regard to outcomes, Bennabi’s unfailing and unerring conviction that unless Muslims change their spiritual condition they cannot effect any far-reaching, meaningful change in society is echoed in the Qur’anic verse: “Verily, never will Allah change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves” (13:11). BADRANE BENLAHCENE is Associate Professor of civilization studies and philosophy of history, Department of Philosophy, Batna University, Algeria, and Department of Islamic studies, Faculty of Arts, King Faisal University, Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia. He is an expert on the work of Bennabi having published articles in a number of journals and presented papers on Bennabi and civilization studies at conferences in Algeria, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia.
