4th Forum of CIS Scientists held in Kyiv, Ukraine
On October 9-13, 2021, Kyiv welcomed guests and participants of the Fourth Forum of CIS Scientists of Community of Independent States Countries. With the help of IIIT, this event happened both on-site and online. This year, the topic of the Forum was, “Islamic Thought in the CIS Countries: Globality and Locality.” Dedicated to the problems of contemporary Muslim education, intellectual traditions, and new approaches to the Islamic Studies, the Forum gathered scholars and guests from the USA, Ukraine, Georgia, Germany, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, Belarus, and Russia. University scholars and representatives of Muslim communities discussed new perspectives of Islamic learning, especially after pandemic times. Many discussions also touched various issues in Muslim communities in Eastern-Central Europe and West Asia — for example, Islamic activism in secular societies and how the integration of knowledge paradigm can find the right solutions for that. Among the contributions represented, Dr. Ilham Nasser (IIIT) delivered her speech on the Advancing Education in Muslims Societies (AEMS) project, proposing some beneficial points for the local communities. The program also included a workshop on educational development by Dr. Yelena Muzykina, Kazakhstan, and book presentations by Ukrainian scholars (Dr. Oleg Yarosh, Dr. Said Ismagilov, and Dr. Nataliia Malynovska). Experiences and recommendations of the Forum are going to be used in the Institute for Knowledge Integrations Academy Project for on-line learning (ikiacademy.org) and higher learning institutions with Islamic Studies departments.
