The Islam and Futures Literacy Workshop
The International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), in conjunction with the Center for Postnormal Policy and Futures Studies, conducted a two-day workshop from June 12-13, 2019 in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. The workshop was led by Dr. Ziauddin Sardar and Dr. Scott Jordan and included twenty seven young graduate students and all IIIT country representatives from East and South East Asian countries.
The event began with duaa by Dr. Habib Chirzin, followed by a briefing by the Program Director, Prof. Mohamad Fauzan Noordin. Next, Dato Jamil Osman presented the welcoming remarks. Soon after, the program began and continued till Maghrib prayer. The first day session topics were “Why should Muslim think about the future”, “Four Metaphor Exercise”, “Introduction to Future Studies”, “Trend Analysis” and “Emerging Issues” (Group Work). Finally, Prof. Sano Khotub ended the day with a brief talk.
Topics on the second day included “Introduction to Visioning and Backcasting” and “Visioning Exercise” (Group Work). After lunch break, Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, IIIT Board Chairman, participated with a welcoming remark and a Q&A session. This was followed by the final part of the program, “Backcasting” (Group Exercise) and presentation of the certificates after Dr. Ziauddin concluded with the final session “Where Now?”
