IIIT Director of Research Visits USM (Penang, Malaysia)

On Monday, March 19, 2018, IIIT’s Director of Research, Ermin Sinanovic, visited Universiti Sains Malaysia (University of Science Malaysia) in Penang. During the visit, he met with the leadership of two Research Centres of Excellence: National Higher Education Research Institute (IPPTN) and Centre for Islamic Development Management Studies (ISDEV).
At IPPTN, Sinanovic met with the Institute’s Director, Prof. Hazri Jamil, several IPPTN researchers and staff. During the meeting, Sinanovic gave a brief presentation on IIIT history and current research direction – AEMS (Advancing Education in Muslim Societies). Prof. Hazri Jamil, on the other hand, spoke about the history of IPPTN and its current research projects. Sinanovic and Hazri Jamil agreed that IIIT and IPPTN share many commonalities that could lead to a fruitful collaboration. Prof. Hazri extended the invitation to IIIT to participate at Global Higher Education Forum (GHEF6.0) which will be held in Malaysia in October, 2018. IIIT is looking to establish a long-term research collaboration with IPPTN in future.

Following this visit, Sinanovic met with ISDEV leadership: Prof. Muhammad Syukri Salleh (ISDEV Founder), Prof. Zakaria Bahari (ISDEV Director), Dr. Fadzila Azni Ahmad (Deputy Director), and several other researchers. After presenting IIIT’s research focus on AEMS, Sinanovic learned more about ISDEV’s postgraduate programs in various areas of Islamic development management. It was agreed that ISDEV and IIIT will look into the possibility of developing a joint research program with IPPTN, in addition to IIIT’s possibly providing input into curriculum development.
