Call for Applicants: June 1 - June 26, 2020
The International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) is pleased to announce its 2020 Summer Student Program (SSP), which will be held June 1 – June 26, 2020. SSP is an intensive, residential program in Islamic studies and related subjects. This program is designed for graduate students and exceptional senior undergraduates who have a particular interest in developing their knowledge and research skills in the core areas of Islamic studies such as methods in the study of Islam, the Qur’an, the Sunnah, Islamic Jurisprudence, and Maqasid al-Shari‘ah (Objectives of Islamic Law and Ethics), Foundations of Belief, Knowledge, and Science, Muslim History and Civilization, and Contemporary Islamic Thought. The program also provides analysis and discussions on subjects related to Islamophobia, Islam in America, Muslim female scholarship, Muslim spirituality. A distinguishing feature of the program is that it combines faith-based normativity with best academic practices and approaches. The program is characterized by pedagogical innovativeness and academic rigor, while welcoming religious expressions and spirituality.
Students must have their own health insurance coverage. IIIT does not provide health – or any other form – of insurance to students. The program will be held at the IIIT offices in Herndon, VA. Transportation to and from Herndon is each student’s responsibility. IIIT will not cover transportation costs. Scholarships are available based on merit and need.

- Current resume/C.V.
- Recent transcript
- 250-word statement on why the student wants to study at SSP and what s/he hopes to accomplish
- 250-word statement on current research interest that may be carried out as a research project during SSP

Eligibility: Must be a graduate student or exceptional senior undergraduate regardless of field of study. The program is open to students of all national, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.
