The International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) and The Fairfax Institute (TFI) held the graduation ceremony for the Integration of Knowledge Summer Program 2023 on August 12, 2023. The day began with a welcome message by Hiba Ismeail, the director of curriculum development and instructional design, followed by an overview of the three-week program by Dr. Boshra Zawawi, the program designer.
The London and Windsor Community Chair in Islamic Studies at Huron University College at Western University in London, Canada, Dr. Ingrid Mattson, was a guest speaker at the event and spoke about nature as a source of beneficial knowledge in the Islamic worldview.
Students presented their final group presentations on Domestic Violence as well as Adoption and Orphan Care based on collaborative research they had carried out during the program on these important contemporary societal issues in light of the integration of knowledge methodology.
Dr. Hisham Altalib, President of IIIT, gave the Commencement address and also distributed the certificates to the students. Dr. Zainab Alwani, the lead instructor, had an informal discussion with the students as well as delivered the final remarks. The students expressed their appreciation for the wonderful experience they had during the three weeks.
Overall, the Integration of Knowledge Summer Program was successfully completed with students gaining important insight into core Islamic disciplines as well as current challenges facing Muslim communities. In addition, the students gained new friends and expanded their network. We wish all of them the very best in their future endeavors!
