Integration of Knowledge Summer Program

Collaborative, Hands-On Learning Experience

Program Overview

Have you ever wondered how the eternal messages of the Quran can be applied to address contemporary issues? How can we live in the footsteps of the Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) in the 21st century? How can we develop critical minds that meaningfully integrate Islamic and secular intellectual heritage? The Fairfax Institute at the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) offers the Integration of Knowledge (IOK) Summer Program that addresses these questions and much more.

The IOK Summer Program is a three-week program designed for graduate and senior undergraduate students to advance their research skills based on a global-centric Quranic worldview. The program introduces a research methodology that integrates the Quran and the Sunnah as sources of knowledge with human intellectual heritage to guide our understanding of the world around us. Students explore the higher intents of Islam to guide their interpretation of the Quran as a constitutive source of knowledge and the Sunnah as the explanatory source.

This collaborative, hands-on program equips students to investigate modern societal issues in light of the integration of knowledge methodology. The program promotes building a learning community among students and instructors to explore new perspectives, brainstorm ideas, share resources, and enjoy fun activities. Students walk away with a more enlightened worldview that shape their lens of understanding reality and living a purposeful life.
