Job Details:Dr. Cynthia Miller-Idriss is a senior strategic advisor for the Advancing Education in Muslim Societies project. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and an M.P.P. in Public Policy from the University of Michigan, and a B.A. in Sociology and German Area Studies from Cornell University. She is currently an associate professor of education and sociology at American University in Washington, D.C. Her research follows two trajectories, focused on far right youth radicalization and culture, and on the organization and production of knowledge about the world within U.S. universities. Her most recent books are the co-edited volume Middle East Studies for the New Millennium: Infrastructures of Knowledge (with co-editor Seteney Shami, NYU Press, 2016), The Extreme Gone Mainstream: Commercialization and Far Right Youth Culture in Germany (Princeton University Press, 2018); and Seeing the World: How Universities Make Knowledge in a Global Era (with co-authors Mitchell Stevens and Seteney Shami, Princeton University Press, 2018). Dr. Miller-Idriss also engages frequently as an expert source, op-ed author and speaker on issues of youth radicalization, nationalism and education for mainstream audiences, most recently for The New York Times, The Washington Post, Vice Magazine and Wisconsin Public Radio, and for policymaking audiences at the U.S. State Department and the German Marshall Fund’s Brussels Forum.
