International Accountant

Position Description

The International Accountant is responsible for all aspects of the Organization’s accounting period close process and related international financial consolidations for multiple international reporting entities. The person in this role will take a lead in understanding and implementing applicable accounting policies and accounting system (Intacct) in international offices of the organization. We are looking for a global minded person with solid accounting skills who can work independently and is comfortable dealing at all levels within the organization and with international offices.

Essential Functions
May perform any or all of the following duties:

  • Reviews current setup of accounting functions in the international offices, understands current workflow and proposes accounting software implementation to address the current workflow or propose change
  • Based on plan, sets up country file in Intacct, prepares training materials specific to each country and engages with local office to prepare them for on-boarding: obtains accounting records, audit reports, develops solid understanding of how accounting function will work going forward
  • Extensively travels to on-board various country accounting departments on common software platform (Intacct)
  • Post deployment of Intacct, backstops international office accounting staff to assist with various issues or needs they may have through teleconferencing or repeat visit to the field office
  • After fully on-boarding international office on cloud accounting software, monitor international office expenditures and support documentation attachments on daily basis and act as internal auditor to identify the deficiencies or issues associated with field office accounting books
  • Responsible for timely communications with field office accounting staff on unresolved or problematic issues and problem solve to correct inadequate reconciliations, documentation support of discrepancies
  • Pass General Journal Entries when needed for the field office accounting books
  • Assist country accounting staff with reconciliation issues, banking and cash flow matters
  • Displays outstanding leadership skills; provides coaching, skills development, guidance and support to international staff
  • Responsible for the timeliness and accuracy of the accounting period closing process for the international offices
  • Responsible for the corporate consolidation and account reconciliation process for multiple reporting entities in both US GAAP and various international local GAAP
  • Oversees the analyses of the monthly reporting from international operations to ensure compliance with US GAAP and any other regulations as applicable
  • Reviews consolidated statement of cash flows and consolidated equity roll-forwards
  • Maintains and supports Intacct and internal reporting tools as necessary to prepare internal financial reports
  • Responsible for periodic management reporting and related analyses
  • Responsible for quarterly analytics and provides support to external auditors and other financial reporting
  • Reviews Company’s contracts for accounting-related considerations
  • Assists in the resolution of any potential audit and review findings
  • Values efficiency and identifies and initiates process improvement opportunities
  • Responsible for the identification, selection and implementation of appropriate accounting policies, procedures and internal controls for international offices
  • Assists other departments in international offices in interpretation and application of accounting policies and procedures
  • Works on special projects and addresses business and financial ramifications of significant and/or unusual transactions, as needed
  • Supports strategic initiatives of the Company while preserving the integrity of the financial information and internal controls for international offices
  • Participates in company meetings, webinars and conference calls
  • Other duties and/or special projects as assigned in response to changing business conditions and/or requirements

Required Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA or CPA in process is a plus
  • 10%-20% travel in first year
  • 3+ years of experience in accounting & consolidations
  • 3+ years of experience in international accounting and foreign exchange
  • Intacct proficiency is a huge plus
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office programs including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Outstanding interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching skills in multi-national, multi-faith environment
  • Must have the ability to determine expectations, effectively measure processes, quality standards and commitments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management both internally and externally and especially with international offices (cultural sensitivity is a must)
  • Ability to use independent thinking and professional judgment
  • Rational decision making, negotiating and influencing skills
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with international office staff at every level
  • Must be authorized to work in the US for any employer and have ability to travel oversees
