Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptians: Religion & Identity
On October 26, the Center for Advanced Studies in cooperation with Balkan Center for Middle East (Belgrade, Republic of Serbia) organized an international seminar “Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians: Religion and Identity” in Belgrade, Serbia. The seminar was attended by eleven scholars, researchers and activists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Serbia. Some of the questions being discussed were:
1. Identity, language, culture and religion of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians in the socio-historical context of the Balkans
2. Socio-political and economic status of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians in the Western Balkans
3. Institutionalized religious communities and normative religious teachings of the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians in the Western Balkans
The main outcome of the event is a solid ground for future activities on this topic. The Center has offered to give its support for research projects, seminars and conferences in the future.
