Shaykh Yasir Qadhi, lecturer at the Dept. of Religious Studies, Rhodes College, Memphis, TN and PhD candidate at Yale University, presented a lecture on March 22, 2013 at IIIT in Herndon, VA on “Reconciling Reason and Revelation in the Writings of Ibn Taymiyya.”
He addressed the issue of reconciling aql with naql through a critical examination of Ibn Taymiyya's arguments on Ta'arud Al Aql Wal-naql in his eleven-volume work on the subject.

Dr. Ermin Sinanovic, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the United States Naval Academy, presented his preliminary research on Islamic Political Thought after the Arab Spring at the International Institute of Islamic Thought on Friday, December 7th. "Political theory," he stated "is developed in two ways: First through abstract thinking about possibilities, and second through the experience of trial and error." IIIT and the Fairfax Institute hosted a Discussion on Teacher Training with Amaarah DeCuir on November 15th. Ms. DeCuir is a doctoral candidate in the Educational Administration and Policy Studies at the George Washington University, Principal at Al Fatih Academy, and an emerging leader in the field of Islamic Education. The participants in the forum included teachers and administrators from both full-time Islamic schools, as well as weekend programs, and others with a particular interest in the development of teacher trainings. On Friday, October 19th, IIIT hosted Producer Alex Kronemer for a screening of Islamic Art: Mirror of the Invisible World. The film which aired previously on PBS covers more than 1,400 years of Islamic art from history through visits to nine counties. The themes of the Word, Space, Ornament, Color and Water were used to present viewers with insight and understanding into the culture and meanings behind much of the masterpieces highlighted in the film....
