Dr. Shabana Mir, Assistant Professor at Oklahoma State University ,will join IIIT in the summer of 2008 as a non-resident Research Fellow. Dr. Mir was awarded a post-doctoral research grant to edit her doctoral dissertation about Muslim women in American university campuses into a book.

A specialist in educational policy and anthropology, Dr. Mir has written an ethnographic study of American Muslim undergraduate women on US college campuses, combining ethnographic methods with concepts from cultural studies. She focuses on religious-cultural stereotypes that Muslim women encounter and the images they project of themselves in a post 9/11 environment.

As part of her fellowship, Dr. Mir will make two presentations about her work at IIIT, tentatively scheduled for July 11 and August 15, 2008.
