Dr. Muhammad Mestiri, Dr. Hisham Altalib, Prof. Tahir Ahmad, Dr. Jamal Barzinji, Prof. Chaibi, Dr. Anas Sheikh AliA delegation from the IIIT Headquarters in Washington visited the Paris office between May 25 and 30, 2008. The delegation was joined by Dr. Anas al Shaikh Ali, Director of the London office. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the IIIT college in France, establish the Council of Scholars for IIIT France, and to discuss the 2008 and 2009 academic activities. They met with the staff, members of the local Council of Scholars and several students of the college. They discussed the space requirements, the budget, and future plans of expansion with the Director, the staff and the professors.

Translated IIIT Books Released

Several IIIT offices are releasing new publications in different languages, in addition to translating existing IIIT publications. IIIT affiliate in Nigeria has released a book titled "The Relevance of Education in our Society" by Haruna Salihi. A new translation of "Madinan Society in the Time of the Prophet - Part 1"  is in Tamil language. "Imam Shatibi's Theory of Higher Objectives of Islamic Law"  by Ahmad al Raysuni has been translated into Urdu, as well as "Objectives of Islamic Law" by Yusuf Alim.

IIIT President Awarded the Honorary PhD Degree in Education from IIUM

On Tuesday May 20th, 2008 Dr. AbdulHamid AbuSulayman, President and Chairman of The Board of IIIT, was the guest of honor at the Silver Jubilee Celebration (25 years) at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).  Dr. AbuSulayman was conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Education.
 
Dr. AbuSulayman was rector of IIUM for 10 years (1989-1999). During his tenure, the University grew from a humble Madrassa of high school standard to a world class university with 15,000 student enrollment on a new campus that is considered a landmark in functional modern Islamic architecture. The event was presided over by Dr. Sayed Sunusi Junid, President of IIUM and attended by Dr. Sayed Al-Arab Edad, Rector of IIUM and Professor Sano Koutoub, Deptuy Rector, IIUM. Over one hundred faculty, staff and old friends of Dr. AbuSulayman also attended.
 
As part of the celebration of the Silver Jubilee of IIUM, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Abdullah Badawi, launched the celebration in a gathering attended by over 4,000 student, faculty and dignitaries.
 
On the evening of Tuesday May 20th, as part of the Silver Jubilee celebration, the Sultan of Pahang State, who is the constitutional Head of IIUM, hosted a dinner, an evening of cultural activities, attended by guests and faculty and senior staff of the University.
