This month saw the launch of a report authored by a theologically diverse group of leading British Muslims entitled "Contextualising Islam in Britain". The scholars and practitioners who contributed to the report, published by Cambridge University, sought to answer a deceptively simple question: What does it mean to live faithfully as a Muslim in Britain today? IIIT hosted the Grand Mufti of Egypt Shaykh Ali Goma and The Grand Mufti of Bosnia Shaykh Mustafa Ceric at its office on Friday, October 9. The two distinguished guests were met by IIIT officers and staff at lunch. Their visit followed their participation in the international Muslim-Christian conference on “A Common Word” at Georgetown University’s Prince Waleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding (CMCU). Two new publications on Islam-West Relations have been released. The first book, Citizenship, Security and Democracy: Muslim Engagement with the West, is a selection of papers from the conference held on September 1-3, 2006, organized b y the Association of Muslim Social Scientists (AMSS UK) and the Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research (SETA). The second book, Muslims and the West: Encounter and Dialogue, published by Legacy International, is also a collection of 12 selected papers from the seminar held in Islamabad in October 1997 under the auspices of the International Islamic University, Islamabad and the Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.
